There is disclosed a method, an apparatus and a computer program product for video encoding and decoding. In accordance with an embodiment the method comprises obtaining coded data of a sub- picture, the sub-picture belonging to a picture, and the sub-picture belonging to a sub-picture sequence and determining whether to use the sub-picture as a source for a manipulated reference sub-picture. If the determining reveals that the sub-picture is to be used as the source for the manipulated reference sub-picture, the manipulated reference sub-picture is generated from the sub-picture to be used as a reference for a subsequent sub-picture of the sub-picture sequence.

La présente invention concerne un procédé, un appareil et un produit-programme d'ordinateur pour un codage et un décodage vidéo. Selon un mode de réalisation, le procédé comprend : l'obtention de données codées d'une sous-image, la sous-image faisant partie d'une image, et la sous-image faisant partie d'une séquence de sous-images; et le fait de déterminer s'il faut utiliser la sous-image comme source pour une sous-image de référence manipulée.Si la détermination révèle que la sous-image doit être utilisée comme source pour la sous-image de référence manipulée, la sous-image de référence manipulée est générée à partir de la sous-image à utiliser comme référence pour une sous-image subséquente de la séquence de sous-images.
