An apparatus for decoding a picture is configured to partition the picture into coding blocks, using recursive multi-tree splitting depending on splitting information signaled in a data stream. The apparatus is configured to decode the picture from coding information which is signaled in the data stream and relates to the coding blocks. The apparatus is configured to partition the picture into the coding blocks depending on splitting information signaled in a data stream, by decoding a split flag of the splitting information from the data stream which indicates whether a predetermined block of the picture is to be split or not to be split thereby stopping the recursive multi-tree splitting with the predetermined block becoming one of the coding blocks. If the split flag indicates that the predetermined block of the picture is to be split, the partitioning of the picture comprises decoding a quad flag of the splitting information from the data stream which indicates whether the predetermined block of the picture is to be split into four child blocks or not. If the split flag indicates that the predetermined block of the picture is to be split, and if the quad flag indicates that the predetermined block of the picture is not to be split into four child blocks, the partitioning of the picture comprises decoding one or more further flags of the splitting information from the data stream which indicate whether the predetermined block of the picture is to be split into two or three child blocks vertically or horizontally. Further, if the split flag indicates that the predetermined block of the picture is to be split, the partitioning of the picture comprises resuming the recursive multi-tree splitting for the child blocks using even further flags of the splitting information.

L'invention concerne un appareil de décodage d'une image configuré pour diviser l'image en blocs de codage, à l'aide d'une division récursive d'arbres multiples en fonction d'informations de division signalées dans un flux de données. L'appareil est configuré pour décoder l'image à partir d'informations de codage qui sont signalées dans le flux de données et qui concernent les blocs de codage. L'appareil est configuré pour diviser l'image en blocs de codage en fonction d'informations de division signalées dans un flux de données, par un décodage d'un drapeau de division des informations de division à partir du flux de données qui indique s'il convient de diviser, ou non, un bloc prédéterminé de l'image à diviser, ce qui permet d'arrêter la division récursive d'arbres multiples, le bloc prédéfini devenant l'un des blocs de codage. Si le drapeau de division indique qu'il convient de diviser le bloc prédéfini de l'image, le partitionnement de l'image consiste à décoder un drapeau quadruple des informations de division à partir du flux de données qui indique s'il convient de diviser, ou non, le bloc prédéfini de l'image en quatre blocs enfants. Si le drapeau de division indique qu'il convient de diviser le bloc prédéfini de l'image, et si le drapeau quadruple indique qu'il convient de ne pas diviser le bloc prédéfini de l'image en quatre blocs enfants, le partitionnement de l'image consiste à décoder un ou plusieurs autres drapeaux des informations de division à partir du flux de données qui indiquent s'il convient de diviser verticalement ou horizontalement le bloc prédéfini de l'image en deux ou trois blocs enfants. En outre, si le drapeau de division indique qu'il convient de diviser le bloc prédéfini de l'image, le partitionnement de l'image consiste à reprendre la division récursive d'arbres multiples des blocs enfants en faisant intervenir encore d'autres drapeaux des informations de division.
