A pressure sensor assembly (10) for measuring the pressure of air in a compression ignition internal combustion engine, the pressure sensor assembly comprising: an external housing unit (50); a sensor unit (20) received within the external housing unit (50), the external housing unit comprising an external surface (22) including a mounting surface (24); a sensing element (28) mounted within the sensor unit (20) and comprising a pressure-sensing surface (30); a substrate (40) upon which the mounting surface (24) is mounted; an air passage (54) to enable air to impinge on the sensing element (28), in use; and a filling passage (68), separate from the air flow passage (54), for the introduction of an encapsulation material (84) onto the sensor unit (20), during assembly. The encapsulation material (84) covers at least a part of the external surface (22) of the sensor unit (20) but does not cover the pressure-sensing surface (30) of the sensing element (28) which remains directly exposed to air within the air passage (54). The invention also relates to a method of encapsulating a sensor unit (20) in a pressure sensor assembly (10).

La présente invention concerne un ensemble capteur de pression (10) servant à mesurer la pression d'air dans un moteur à combustion interne à allumage par compression, l'ensemble capteur de pression comprenant : une unité de boîtier externe (50); une unité de capteur (20) reçue à l'intérieur de l'unité de boîtier externe (50), l'unité de boîtier externe comprenant une surface externe (22) comprenant une surface de montage (24); un élément de détection (28) monté à l'intérieur de l'unité de capteur (20) et comprenant une surface de détection de pression (30); un substrat (40) sur lequel la surface de montage (24) est montée; un passage d'air (54) pour permettre à l'air de venir frapper l'élément de détection (28), lors de l'utilisation; et un passage de remplissage (68), séparé du passage d'écoulement d'air (54), pour introduire un matériau d'encapsulation (84) sur l'unité de capteur (20), lors de l'assemblage. Le matériau d'encapsulation (84) recouvre au moins une partie de la surface externe (22) de l'unité de capteur (20), mais ne recouvre pas la surface de détection de pression (30) de l'élément de détection (28) qui reste directement exposée à l'air se trouvant à l'intérieur du passage d'air (54). L'invention concerne également un procédé d'encapsulation d'une unité de capteur (20) dans un ensemble capteur de pression (10).
