The inventive method for applying a protective graphene coating onto a surface, especially onto a two- or three dimensional artwork or colored surface, comprises the following steps: a) depositing, preferably by chemical vapor deposition (CVD), graphene onto a at least one side of a supporting substrate to produce a graphene/substrate composite including a continuous graphene membrane formed on at least one side of said substrate; b) removing the substrate, or lifting off the graphene from the substrate and c) depositing the graphene membrane onto the surface. A protective graphene coating prepared and deposited by this method provides protection for a surface, especially a two- or three-dimensional artwork or a colored surface, against color degradation, especially fading, yellowing and discoloration due to exposure to UV radiation, dirt, dust, moisture, chemical and/or oxidizing agents.

La présente invention concerne un procédé d'application d'un revêtement protecteur de graphène sur une surface, en particulier sur une œuvre d'art ou une surface colorée à deux ou trois dimensions, qui comprend les étapes suivantes consistant à : a) déposer, de préférence par dépôt chimique en phase vapeur (CVD), du graphène sur au moins un côté d'un substrat de support pour produire un composite graphène/substrat comprenant une membrane de graphène continue formée sur au moins un côté dudit substrat; b) retirer le substrat, ou décoller le graphène du substrat et c) déposer la membrane de graphène sur la surface. Un revêtement protecteur de graphène préparé et déposé au moyen de ce procédé confère une protection pour une surface, en particulier une œuvre d'art ou une surface colorée à deux ou trois dimensions, contre la dégradation des couleurs, en particulier l'altération de la couleur, le jaunissement et la décoloration dus à une exposition aux rayonnements UV, à la saleté, à la poussière, à l'humidité, aux agents chimiques et/ou oxydants.
