Das Verfahren umfasst die Schritte Empfangen (109) einer aktuellen Gaspedalstellung (23) mit einem Anhängerbremssteuergerät (42) des Anhängerfahrzeugs (16) von einem Zugfahrzeug (12), Erzeugen (104, 106, 108, 112, 116) eines Ansteuersignals (62) für den elektrischen Antrieb (52) mit dem Anhängerbremssteuergerät (42) in Abhängigkeit der empfangenen aktuellen Gaspedalstellung (23) und Ansteuern (120) des elektrischen Antriebs (52) mit dem erzeugten Ansteuersignal (62). Ferner betrifft die Erfindung ein Fahrzeugbremssteuergerät (32) für ein Zugfahrzeug (12), ein Anhängerbremssteuergerät (42) für ein Anhängerfahrzeug (16), ein Fahrzeug (12) mit einem Fahrzeugbremssteuergerät (32) oder einem Anhängerbremssteuergerät (42) sowie ein Computerprogrammprodukt zum Ausführen des Verfahrens auf einem Anhängerbremssteuergerät (42).
