Abstract

A system and method utilizing thermoacoustic imaging to estimate tissue temperature within a region of interest (ROI) that includes an object of interest and a reference which are separated by at least one boundary with at least two boundary locations. The system and method use a thermoacoustic imaging system that includes an adjustable radio frequency (RF) applicator configured to emit RF energy pulses into the tissue ROI and heat tissue therein and an acoustic receiver configured to receive bipolar acoustic signals generated in response to heating of tissue in the ROI; and one or more processors that are able to: process received bipolar acoustic generated in the region of interest in response to the RF energy pulses to determine a peak-to-peak amplitude thereof; and calculate a temperature at the at least two boundary locations using the peak-to-peak amplitudes of the bipolar acoustic signals and a distance between the boundary locations.

L'invention concerne un système et un procédé utilisant l'imagerie thermoacoustique pour estimer la température de tissus dans une région d'intérêt (ROI) qui comprend un objet d'intérêt et une référence qui sont séparées par au moins une limite avec au moins deux emplacements de limite. Le système et le procédé utilisent un système d'imagerie thermoacoustique qui comprend un applicateur de fréquence radio (RF) réglable configuré pour émettre des impulsions d'énergie RF dans la région d'intérêt tissulaire et chauffer le tissu à l'intérieur de celle-ci et un récepteur acoustique configuré pour recevoir des signaux acoustiques bipolaires générés en réponse au chauffage de tissu dans la ROI; et un ou plusieurs processeurs qui sont aptes à: traiter des signaux acoustiques bipolaires reçus dans la région d'intérêt en réponse aux impulsions d'énergie RF pour déterminer leur amplitude entre crêtes; et calculer une température au niveau des au moins deux emplacements de limite à l'aide des amplitudes entre crêtes des signaux acoustiques bipolaires et d'une distance entre les emplacements de limite.
