A method may include: determining a total dissolved solids (TDS) concentration of a water source; correlating the TDS concentration to an ion concentration; and selecting at least one friction reducing polymer for a hydraulic fracturing operation based at least in part on the ion concentration.

L'invention concerne un procédé qui peut comprendre les étapes consistant à : déterminer une concentration totale de solides dissous (TDS) d'une source d'eau ; corréler la concentration TDS à une concentration d'ions ; et sélectionner au moins un polymère réducteur de frottement pour une opération de fracturation hydraulique sur la base, au moins en partie, de la concentration d'ions.
