Adaptive filtering is used video stream for bitrate reduction. A first copy of the input video stream is encoded to a reference bitstream. Each of a number of candidate filters is applied to each frame of a second copy of the input video stream to produce a filtered second copy of the input video stream. The filtered second copy is encoded to a candidate bitstream. A cost value for the candidate filter is determined based on distortion value and bitrate differences between the candidate bitstream and the reference bitstream. The candidate bitstream corresponding to the candidate filter with a lowest one of the cost values is selected as the output bitstream, which is then output or stored. Processing the input video stream using the adaptive filter and before the encoding may result in bitrate reduction, thereby improving compression, decompression, and other performance.

L'invention concerne un filtrage adaptatif de flux vidéo qui est utilisé pour la réduction du débit binaire. Une première copie du flux vidéo d'entrée est codée en un flux binaire de référence. Chaque filtre candidat d'un certain nombre de filtres candidats est appliqué à chaque trame d'une seconde copie du flux vidéo d'entrée pour produire une seconde copie filtrée du flux vidéo d'entrée. La seconde copie filtrée est codée en un flux binaire candidat. Une valeur de coût pour le filtre candidat est déterminée sur la base de différences de valeur de distorsion et de débit binaire entre le flux binaire candidat et le flux binaire de référence. Le flux binaire candidat correspondant au filtre candidat ayant la plus faible des valeurs de coût est sélectionné comme flux binaire de sortie, qui est ensuite délivré en sortie ou stocké. Le traitement du flux vidéo d'entrée à l'aide du filtre adaptatif et avant le codage peut entraîner une réduction du débit binaire, ce qui permet d'améliorer la compression, la décompression et d'autres performances.
