Disclosed is an image display apparatus. The image display apparatus includes: a display; an illumination sensor configured to sense ambient illumination of the display; and a signal processing unit configured to output an image-quality-processed image signal to the display, wherein the signal processing unit is configured to, based on information on the illumination sensed by the illumination sensor, convert gray level of an input image according to a first gray level conversion mode or according to a second gray level conversion mode in which an amount of increase in gray level is greater than in the first gray level conversion mode. Accordingly, it is possible to improve gray level expression of a displayed image in response to ambient illumination of the display.

La présente invention concerne un appareil d’affichage d’image. L’appareil d’affichage d’image comprend : une unité d’affichage ; un capteur d’éclairage configuré pour détecter l’éclairage ambiant de l’unité d’affichage ; et une unité de traitement de signaux configurée pour délivrer à l’unité d’affichage un signal d’image traité selon la qualité d’image. L’unité de traitement de signaux est configurée pour, sur la base d’informations sur l’éclairage détecté par le capteur d’éclairage, convertir un niveau de gris d’une image d’entrée selon un premier mode de conversion de niveau de gris ou selon un second mode de conversion de niveau de gris dans lequel une quantité d’augmentation de niveau de gris est supérieure à celle dans le premier mode de conversion de niveau de gris. Par conséquent, il est possible d’améliorer l’expression de niveaux de gris d’une image affichée en réponse à l’éclairage ambiant de l’unité d’affichage.
