The present invention pertains to a carbonaceous material for an electrochemical device wherein the average grain diameter D50 is 30 μm or greater, and the basic fluid energy BFE is 270 mJ to 1100 mJ when measured by a powder fluidity analyzer equipped with a measurement container having a diameter of 50 mm and a volume of 160 mL under conditions of a blade tip speed of 100 mm/sec and a powder sample filling capacity of 120 mL, and calculated by the formula BFE=T/(Rtanα)+F (where R = 48mm, α = 5°, T is the numerical value of the rotational torque measured by the device, and F is the numerical value of the perpendicular stress measured by the device).
