Abstract

Electrified roadway systems include a roadway, and vehicles configured to operate on the roadway. The roadway has a base, and two electrically-conductive rails mounted on the base. One of the rails is electrically connected to a source of electric power, and the other rail is electrically connected to an electrical ground. The vehicles include non-electrically-conductive tires, and an electric motor mechanically connected to, and configured to rotate at least one of the tires to propel the vehicle along the roadway. The vehicles draw electric power from the roadway via two electrical pickups. The electrical pickups are configured to move between a deployed position at which the pickups contact the respective rails, and a retracted position at which the pickups are out of contact with the rails.

Selon la présente invention, des systèmes routiers électrifiés comprennent une route, et des véhicules configurés pour fonctionner sur la route. La route présente une base, et deux rails conducteurs d'électricité montés sur la base. L'un des rails est électriquement connecté à une source d'énergie électrique, et l'autre rail est électriquement connecté à une masse électrique. Les véhicules comprennent des pneus non conducteurs d'électricité, et un moteur électrique relié mécaniquement à des pneus, et conçu pour faire tourner au moins un des pneus afin de propulser le véhicule le long de la route. Les véhicules tirent de l'énergie électrique de la route par l'intermédiaire de deux capteurs électriques. Les capteurs électriques sont configurés pour se déplacer entre une position déployée dans laquelle les capteurs entrent en contact avec les rails respectifs, et une position rétractée dans laquelle les capteurs sont hors contact avec les rails.
