An electrochromic device having a side-by-side structure, comprising a common electrode unit (40), at least one color changing unit (30), and an electrolyte layer (70), wherein the common electrode unit (40) comprises an electrode layer (42) and an electrode protection layer (43) provided on the electrode layer (42); the color changing unit (30) comprises a transparent conductive layer (32) and a color changing unit (33) provided on the transparent conductive layer (32); the common electrode unit (40) and each color changing unit (30) are arranged on the same plane, and an insulting region (50) is provided between adjacent two units; the electrolyte layer (70) covers the electrode protection layer (43) of the common electrode unit (40) and the color changing layer (33) of each color changing unit (30), and is communicated with the electrode protection layer (43) of the common electrode unit (40) and the color changing layer (33) of each color changing unit (30). By flattening the current electrochromic device having a sandwich structure to be the electrochromic device having the side-by-side structure, the present invention facilitates achieving the multi-color and personalized pattern design of the electrochromic device, and reduces the difficulties of integration, softening, and large-area design.
