Described herein are glucose sensors. The sensors are composed of host cells incorporating DNA devices specifically designed to produce fluorescence when the cells come into contact with glucose from a patient sample. Once the fluorescence has been quantified, it can be correlated with the amount of glucose present in the sample. Also described herein are extracts from the host cells that can sense and measure glucose levels in a patient. The devices and extracts disclosed herein are inexpensive but sensitive and accurate enough for use in both home and clinical testing situations. The devices and extracts disclosed herein are also useful for diagnosis of diabetes, pre-diabetes, or other diseases associated with elevated glucose levels.

La présente invention concerne des capteurs de glucose. Les capteurs sont constitués de cellules hôtes dotées de dispositifs à ADN spécifiquement conçu pour produire de la fluorescence lorsque les cellules entrent en contact avec du glucose d'un échantillon prélevé chez un patient. Une fois que la fluorescence a été quantifiée, elle peut être corrélée à la quantité de glucose présente dans l'échantillon. L'invention concerne également des extraits des cellules hôtes pouvant détecter et mesurer des niveaux de glucose chez un patient. Les dispositifs et les extraits de l'invention sont peu coûteux mais sensibles et suffisamment précis pour être utilisés à la fois dans des situations de test domestique et clinique. Les dispositifs et les extraits de l'invention sont également utiles pour le diagnostic du diabète, du pré-diabète, ou d'autres maladies associées à des taux élevés de glucose.
