A food product ingredient formed from a keratinous protein-containing material, e.g, feathers, and methods of making the same. The methods include cleaning the keratinous protein- containing material, combining the keratinous protein-containing material with a cereal bran to form a mixture, and hydrolyzing the mixture to form the food product ingredient. Optionally, of the keratinous protein-containing material is cleaned and/or frozen within 5 hours of collection. The methods generate fewer unpleasant odors, and food product ingredients produced by the method can similarly benefit. The food product ingredient may be incorporated into a food product, such as a pet food product.

L'invention concerne un ingrédient pour produit alimentaire formé à partir d'un matériau contenant des protéines kératiniques, par exemple des plumes, et des procédés de fabrication de celui-ci. Les procédés comprennent le nettoyage de la matière contenant des protéines kératiniques, la combinaison de la matière contenant des protéines kératiniques avec un son de céréale pour former un mélange, et l'hydrolyse du mélange pour former l'ingrédient pour produit alimentaire. En option, le matériau contenant des protéines kératiniques est nettoyé et/ou congelé au cours des 5 heures suivant la collecte. Les procédés génèrent moins d'odeurs désagréables et les ingrédients pour produits alimentaires produits par le procédé peuvent en bénéficier de manière similaire.
