A method of making cyclobutane-1,2-diacid building blocks includes using trans-cinnamic acid in its beta form (head to head packing) and photodimerizing the trans-cinnamic acid to create cis-cyclobutane-1,2-dicarboxylic acid (CBDA-4).

L'invention concerne un procédé de préparation d'éléments constitutifs de type cyclobutane-1,2-diacide qui consiste à utiliser de l'acide trans-cinnamique sous sa forme bêta (empilement tête-à-tête) et à photodimériser l'acide trans-cinnamique pour créer l'acide cis-cyclobutane-1,2-dicarboxylique (CBDA-4).
