Organic isocyanates are converted to ureas by heating in the presence of certain cobalt, magnesium, chromium and lanthanide series organometallic catalysts. The process requires no water or other reactants. The process is particularly useful for removing small quantities of monoisocyanates from a solvent stream recovered from a polyisocyanate manufacturing process. The urea compounds in some instances can be recycled back into the polyisocyanate manufacturing process and reacted with polyisocyanate compounds to form biurets.

La présente invention concerne des isocyanates organiques qui sont convertis en urées par chauffage en présence de certains catalyseurs organométalliques en série de cobalt, de magnésium, de chrome et de lanthanide. Le procédé ne nécessite pas d'eau ou d'autres réactifs. Le procédé est particulièrement utile pour éliminer de petites quantités de monoisocyanates à partir d'un flux de solvant récupéré d'un procédé de fabrication de polyisocyanate. Les composés d'urée dans certains cas peuvent être recyclés dans le procédé de fabrication de polyisocyanate et mis à réagir avec des composés de polyisocyanate pour former des biurets.
