Techniques are disclosed to remedy thermal issues associated with antenna systems. These techniques include implementing heat pipes coupled between an external mast having antenna circuitry mounted thereon and an internal heatsink inside an environmentally-controlled location. This configuration thermally regulates heat associated with active antennas mounted to the mast, which is externally mounted onto the roof of a vehicle. The heat pipes carry heat from the mast down through the roof to the internal heatsink. The aspects described herein allow for car manufacturers to integrate mmWave technology into their vehicles while avoiding large and unsightly cooling mechanisms that would otherwise adversely impact aerodynamics and fuel efficiency.

L'invention concerne des techniques permettant de remédier à des problèmes thermiques liés à des systèmes d'antenne. Ces techniques comprennent la mise en oeuvre de caloducs couplés entre un mât externe sur lequel sont montés des circuits d'antenne, et un dissipateur thermique interne situé dans un emplacement à contrôle environnemental. Cette configuration régule thermiquement la chaleur liée aux antennes actives montées sur le mât, lequel est monté à l'extérieur sur le toit d'un véhicule. Les caloducs transportent la chaleur du mât vers le bas jusqu'au dissipateur thermique interne à travers le toit. Les aspects décrits dans la présente invention permettent aux fabricants de voitures d'intégrer la technologie mmWave dans leurs véhicules tout en évitant des mécanismes de refroidissement imposants et inesthétiques qui altèreraient l'aérodynamique et l'efficacité du carburant.
