A method of preparing a polycarbonate composition in a polymerization system that comprises a monomer mixing unit, an oligomerization section, and a polymerization section. The method includes melt polymerizing a dihydroxy compound with a diaryl carbonate compound in the presence of a quaternary phosphonium catalyst to produce the polycarbonate composition having a pho sphorus-containing byproduct of at least one of the quaternary phosphonium catalyst or of the diaryl carbonate compound. The method further includes recycling the phosphorus -containing byproduct into the monomer mixing unit of the polymerization system and removing the polycarbonate composition from the polymerization system. The recycle stream has a phosphorus concentration of greater than or equal to 40 ppm.

L'invention concerne un procédé de préparation d'une composition de polycarbonate dans un système de polymérisation qui comprend une unité de mélange de monomères, une section d'oligomérisation et une section de polymérisation. Le procédé comprend la polymérisation à l'état fondu d'un composé dihydroxylé avec un composé carbonate de diaryle en présence d'un catalyseur à base de phosphonium quaternaire pour produire la composition de polycarbonate comprenant un sous-produit contenant du phosphore d'au moins l'un du catalyseur à base de phosphonium quaternaire ou du composé carbonate de diaryle. Le procédé comprend en outre le recyclage du sous-produit contenant du phosphore dans l'unité de mélange de monomères du système de polymérisation et le retrait de la composition de polycarbonate du système de polymérisation. Le courant de recyclage a une concentration en phosphore supérieure ou égale à 40 ppm.
