Abstract

An improved pistonless cylinder, including both single acting and double acting configurations, based on an Aramid fiber reinforced elastomer tubular which is highly stiff in radial direction against radial expansion and elastic in axial extension, so as to form a completely sealed, extendable and retractable pressure chamber and to be able to perform as well as, or better than, most of the conventional hydraulic cylinders in terms of load bearing capacities, maximum stroke distances and service durability. This improved cylinder employs no piston, piston rod, sealing seals or oil based hydraulic fluid, and utilizes non-metal materials to construct the majority of the parts for its extendable and retractable pressure chamber; therefore, this new cylinder can achieve significant weight and fabrication cost reduction. In addition, this new pistonless cylinder uses ordinary liquids, e.g., fresh water or seawater, as its hydraulic fluid, and can work directly as a hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder interchangeably without a need for much, if any, modification.

L'invention concerne un vérin sans piston perfectionné, comprenant des configurations à simple action ainsi qu'à double action, sur la base d'un élément tubulaire élastomère renforcé par des fibres d'aramide, hautement rigide dans la direction radiale contre une expansion radiale et élastique dans une extension axiale, afin de former une chambre de pression complètement étanche, extensible et rétractable et afin de pouvoir fonctionner aussi bien que, ou mieux que, la plupart des vérins hydrauliques classiques en termes de portances, de distances de course maximales et de durabilité d'utilisation. Ce vérin perfectionné n'utilise pas de piston, ni de tige de piston, ni de joints d'étanchéité ni de fluide hydraulique à base d'huile, et il utilise des matériaux non métalliques afin de construire la majorité des parties pour sa chambre de pression extensible et rétractable ; par conséquent, ce nouveau vérin peut obtenir des réductions importantes de poids et de coûts de fabrication. De plus, ce nouveau vérin sans piston utilise des liquides ordinaires, par exemple de l'eau douce ou de l'eau de mer, en tant que fluide hydraulique, et peut fonctionner directement comme un vérin hydraulique ou pneumatique de manière interchangeable sans nécessiter beaucoup de modifications, le cas échéant.
