The invention is generally related to a method for producing, in a consistent manner, SiHy contact lenses each having an intact durable coating thereon, wherein the coating is a hydrogel coating formed by covalently attached a hydrophilic polymeric material onto a base coating of a polyanionic polymer on a SiHy contact lens. In this method, the base coating is formed by having two solution coating steps separated by at least one rinsing step with a buffered saline or pH controlled solution. The durability of the hydrogel coatings on resultant silicone hydrogel contact lenses can be improved significantly and will not vary with the optical power (i.e., the center thickness) of the SiHy contact lens under coating.

Cette invention concerne d'une manière générale un procédé de production, d'une manière cohérente, de lentilles de contact en silicone-hydrogel (SiHy) ayant chacune un revêtement durable intact sur celle-ci, le revêtement étant un revêtement d'hydrogel formé par liaison covalente d'un matériau polymère hydrophile sur un revêtement de base d'un polymère poly-anionique sur une lentille de contact en SiHy. Dans ce procédé, le revêtement de base est formé au moyen de deux étapes de revêtement en solution séparées par au moins une étape de rinçage avec une solution saline tamponnée ou à pH contrôlé. La durabilité des revêtements d'hydrogel sur les lentilles de contact en silicone-hydrogel résultantes peut être améliorée de manière significative et ne varie pas avec la puissance optique (c'est-à-dire l'épaisseur centrale) de la lentille de contact en SiHy en cours de revêtement.
