The invention provides a method by which hydrogen is generated by coproducing with certain metals by reducing the metal oxide with MgH2 or with metal and water. The reactions involving the coproduction of hydrogen are exothermic. The process involves reacting the magnesium hydride with a metal oxide or direct use of metal and water instead of a hydride and reacting with the metal oxide. Hydrogen is released, and the added oxide is reduced to metal. The cost of magnesium or the other reacting elements is accommodated if the metal produced from the reduction of the oxide is higher in price than magnesium or of the reacting element used. The oxides in addition to water used in the reaction for coproducing Hydrogen and metal includes SiO2, Cr2O3, TiO2, SnO2, ZrO2, CuO, ZnO, WO3, Ta2O5, Cs2Cr2O7 or CsOH.

L'invention concerne un procédé par lequel de l'hydrogène est généré par coproduction avec certains métaux par réduction de l'oxyde métallique avec du MgH2 ou avec du métal et de l'eau. Les réactions impliquant la coproduction d'hydrogène sont exothermiques. Le procédé consiste à faire réagir l'hydrure de magnésium avec un oxyde métallique ou une utilisation directe de métal et d'eau au lieu d'un hydrure et à faire réagir avec l'oxyde métallique. L'hydrogène est libéré, et l'oxyde ajouté est réduit en métal. Le coût du magnésium ou des autres éléments de réaction est pris en compte si le métal produit à partir de la réduction de l'oxyde est supérieur en terme de prix au magnésium ou aux éléments de réaction utilisés. Les oxydes en plus de l'eau utilisée dans la réaction pour coproduire de l'hydrogène et du métal comprennent du SiO2, Cr2O3, TiO2, SnO2, ZrO2, CuO, ZnO, WO3, Ta2O5, Cs2Cr2O7 ou du CsOH.
