A selectively reinforced component (10) comprises a metal body (12) with at least one metal matrix composite insert (14) embedded in a first surface (18) of the metal body (12), with at least one weld bonding an outer surface of the metal matrix composite insert (14) to the metal body (12). The selectively reinforced component (10) is formed by introducing the or each metal matrix composite insert (14) into a recess (16) inthe first surface (18) of the metal body (12), before forming the at least one weld to bond the outer surface of the metal matrix composite insert (14) to an opposing inner peripheral surface of the recess (16).

L'invention concerne un élément (10) renforcé sélectivement, comprenant un corps métallique (12) comportant au moins un insert composite à matrice métallique (14) intégré dans une première surface (18) du corps métallique (12), avec au moins une soudure reliant une surface extérieure de l'insert composite à matrice métallique (14) au corps métallique (12). L'élément renforcé sélectivement (10) est formé par introduction dudit ou de chaque insert composite à matrice métallique (14) dans un évidement (16) dans la première surface (18) du corps métallique (12), avant de former ladite soudure pour lier la surface externe de l'insert composite à matrice métallique (14) à une surface périphérique interne opposée de l'évidement (16).
