Die Erfindung betrifft eine Steuereinheit und ein Verfahren für einen Hybridantrieb, der einen Verbrennungsmotor und eine elektrische Maschine umfasst, wobei der Verbrennungsmotor Verstellvorrichtungen (beispielsweise vollvariable Ventilhubsteuerungen und/oder ein-/ausschaltbare Ventilöffnungsaktuatoren) zumindest zur Deaktivierung der Ein- und Auslassventil-Öffnungsaktuierung aufweist, Die Steuereinheit ist erfindungsgemäß derart ausgestaltet (z.B. durch ein Software-Programm-Modul in Form eines Schleppmomentreduzierungs-Funktionsmoduls), dass bei mindestens einer vorgegebenen Bedingung (insbesondere beim Rekuperieren im unbefeuerten Schubbetrieb oder beim elektrischen Fahren insbesondere bei einem Betrieb mit hoher Zuschalthäufigkeit des Verbrennungsmotors, z. B. im "Charge Sustaining"- oder HEV-Betrieb) die Ein- und Auslassventile bei unbefeuertem Verbrennungsmotor zumindest nahezu gleichzeitig und zumindest nahezu (vorzugsweise vollständig) geschlossen gehalten werden. Dabei muss der Verbrennungsmotor mit der elektrischen Maschine verbunden sein. Bei gegebenenfalls vorhandener Trennkupplung wird oder bleibt diese geschlossen.
