Abstract

An engine assembly comprises: an internal combustion engine having: a combustion chamber; an air inlet for supplying air to the combustion chamber; a fuel injector for supplying fuel to the combustion chamber; an exhaust outlet for releasing exhaust gas from the combustion chamber and a rotatable drive shaft, wherein combustion of fuel in air within the combustion chamber results in rotation of the drive shaft. The engine assembly further comprises: a turbocharger system comprising: a turbine configured to recover energy from exhaust gas provided via the exhaust gas outlet; and a turbocharger compressor configured to receive energy from the turbine and thereby to compress air for use in combustion of fuel in the combustion chamber. The engine assembly further comprises: a supercharger system comprising a supercharger compressor configured to receive kinetic energy from the drive shaft and to compress air for use in combustion in the combustion chamber. The engine assembly further comprises: a flywheel configured for kinetic energy storage; a first linkage between the drive shaft and the flywheel, wherein the linkage comprises a variable belt drive; and a second linkage between the first linkage and the supercharger compressor.

L'invention concerne un ensemble moteur comprenant : un moteur à combustion interne ayant : une chambre de combustion ; une entrée d'air pour fournir de l'air à la chambre de combustion ; un injecteur de carburant pour fournir du carburant à la chambre de combustion ; une sortie d'échappement destinée à libérer le gaz d'échappement de la chambre de combustion et un arbre d'entraînement rotatif, la combustion du carburant dans l'air à l'intérieur de la chambre de combustion entraînant la rotation de l'arbre d'entraînement. L'ensemble moteur comprend en outre : un système de turbocompresseur comprenant : une turbine conçue pour récupérer de l'énergie à partir d'un gaz d'échappement fourni par l'intermédiaire de la sortie de gaz d'échappement ; et un compresseur de turbocompresseur conçu pour recevoir de l'énergie provenant de la turbine et ainsi comprimer de l'air pour une utilisation dans la combustion du carburant dans la chambre de combustion. L'ensemble moteur comprend en outre : un système de surpresseur comprenant un compresseur de surpresseur conçu pour recevoir de l'énergie cinétique provenant de l'arbre d'entraînement et pour comprimer de l'air destiné à être utilisé dans la combustion dans la chambre de combustion. L'ensemble moteur comprend en outre : un volant conçu pour un stockage d'énergie cinétique ; une première liaison entre l'arbre d'entraînement et le volant, la liaison comprenant un entraînement à courroie variable ; et une seconde liaison entre la première liaison et le compresseur de surpresseur.
