A method and system for stabilizing electrical power for arc furnaces and their power supplies. The method comprises causing a load to absorb power in response to determining a loss of arc event of an arc furnace electrode. After the electrode arc is re-established, power to the load is stopped. The load helps maintain a consistent power consumption during the loss of arc event without significantly changing the power supply output to balance supply with demand. The system comprises a load, and a controller to regulate the amount of power being absorbed by the load. The controller may help expedite re-establishing the electrode arc and help minimize the size of the load. The controller may be part of, or interact with, a furnace power electronic control system.

L'invention concerne un procédé et un système de stabilisation de puissance électrique pour fours à arc et leurs alimentations électriques. Le procédé comprend une étape consistant à amener une charge à absorber de l'énergie en réponse à la détermination d'un événement de perte d'arc affectant une électrode de four à arc. Après rétablissement de l'arc d'électrode, l'alimentation de la charge est arrêtée. La charge contribue au maintien d'une consommation d'énergie cohérente pendant l'événement de perte d'arc sans impliquer de modification significative de la production d'énergie électrique pour établir un équilibre entre l'alimentation et la demande. Le système comprend une charge et un dispositif de commande pour réguler la quantité d'énergie absorbée par la charge. Le dispositif de commande peut jouer un rôle pour accélérer le rétablissement de l'arc d'électrode et minimiser la taille de la charge. Le dispositif de commande peut faire partie d'un système de commande électronique de puissance de four ou interagir avec celui-ci.
