CLAIMS

1. A frame assembly for window frames or door frames adapted to be installed in building wall openings in building walls of variable widths, the frame assembly comprising:

an elongate jamb member comprising a lateral side portion that is spaced away from a bounding surface of the building wall,

a fastening arrangement located at the side portion of the jamb member and extending along a length of the jamb member;

a profiled sill member adapted to be positioned along the length of the jamb member and extend towards the bounding surface of the outer wall, the sill member further comprising an interlocking portion for being received and interlocked with the fastening arrangement of the jamb member.

2. A frame assembly in accordance with claim 1 wherein the fastening arrangement comprises a channel extending along the length of the jamb member, the channel being structured to receive a profiled edge of the interlocking portion of the sill member to allow the sill member to be interlocked with the jamb member.

3. A frame assembly in accordance with claim 1 or claim 2 wherein during use the fastening arrangement of the jamb member is spaced away from a bounding surface of an inner wall of the building wall across the thickness of the building wall.

4. A frame assembly in accordance with claim 3 when dependent upon claim 2 wherein the profiled sill member comprises:

a connecting base portion extending along a length of the jamb member, the base portion including said edge portion and being structured to extend between the fastening portion of the jamb member towards a plane of bounding surface of the building wall; and

a depending portion depending from the base portion to lap over the bounding surface of the inner wall.

5. A frame assembly in accordance with claim 4 wherein the depending portion is angled relative to the base portion to lap over the bounding surface of the inner wall.

6. A frame assembly in accordance with claim 4 or claim 5 wherein the edge portion is curved away in a transverse direction relative to a plane of the base portion of the sill member.

7. A frame assembly in accordance with any one of claims 2 to 6 wherein the edge portion is turned away in an upwardly or downwardly direction from a plane of the base portion for being received and inter-locked with the fastening arrangement of the jamb member.

8. A frame assembly in accordance with claim 2 or claims 3 to 7 when dependent upon claim 2 wherein the fastening arrangement comprises a hollow channel with an opening provided along an outwardly facing longitudinal side of the jamb member to define an L-shaped or J-shaped channel for receiving and interlocking the edge portion of the sill member.

9. A frame assembly in accordance with claim 8 wherein the connecting portion comprises a stop member or lug member projecting from the connecting portion of the sill member to abut against an end portion of the L-shaped channel and limit inward movement of the edge portion of the sill member.

10. A frame assembly in accordance with any one of the preceding claims wherein the width of the base portion in the sill member is variable for allowing attachment of the jamb to building walls with various thicknesses.

1 1 . A frame assembly in accordance with any one of the preceding claims wherein the depending portion is adapted to receive a moulding panel thereon for concealing at least a part of the depending portion of the sill member.

12. A frame assembly in accordance with any one of the preceding claims further comprising the door frame or window frame, wherein the door or window frames comprise one or more channels containing drains and openings or outlets that are operatively arranged to constrain and divert water away from an interior portion of the frame to an exterior portion of the frame.

13. A frame assembly in accordance with claim 12 wherein the frame assembly comprises:

a first channel positioned along an upper portion of the window frame or the door frame, the upper portion being located adjacent a wall portion defining the building wall opening of the building wall; and

a second channel positioned below the first channel to allow water to drain into the second channel under gravity through a transfer opening provided in the frame assembly.

14. A frame assembly in accordance with claim 13 further comprising an outlet arranged relative to the second channel to allow the drained water from the second channel to be released out to the exterior portion of the frame.

15. A frame assembly in accordance with any one of claims 13 or 14 wherein the first channel and/or the second channel is a J-shaped channel.

16. A frame assembly in accordance with any one of claims 13 to 15 further comprising an external drain channel extending along a length of the window frame or door frame, the external drain channel being positioned below the first and/or second channels for receiving water from said first and/or second channel under gravity.
