Claims

1. A cosmetic composition for use in the treatment, repair, rejuvenation and/or beautification of the skin, including enhancing skin elasticity, the composition comprising an effective amount of at least one compound which exhibits dual activity as a NF-KB signaling inhibitor and a Nrf2 signaling agonist in combination with at least one additional cosmetic additive.

The composition of claim 1 , wherein said cosmetic additive is water, an alcohol or other water compatible cosmetically acceptable solvent, a water incompatible solvent, an emollient, a humectant, an oil, a conditioning agent, a surfactant, a thickener/thickening agent, a stiffening agent, an emulsifier, a medicament, a fragrance, a preservative, a deodorant component, an anti-perspirant compound, a skin protecting agent, a pigment, a dye, a coloring agent, a preservative or mixtures thereof.

3. The composition according to claim 1 or 2 optionally including an anti-acne compound, vitamin C, vitamin E, vitamin A, coenzyme Q, aloe vera or a mixture thereof.

4. The composition according to claim 3 wherein said anti-acne compound is a peroxide, such as hydrogen peroxide or benzoyl peroxide, a dialkyl peroxide, a perester, an inorganic peroxide, percarbonate, triclosan, a quaternary compound, such as a quaternary ammonium compound, including benzalkonium chloride, a retinoid such as adapalene, isotretinoin, tretinoin, pharmaceutically acceptable salts and esters thereof, and mixtures thereof.

5. The composition of any of claims 1 -4, wherein the compound exhibiting dual activity is according to the chemical structure:

a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, or a mixture thereof.

The composition according to claim 10 wherein said anti-acne agent is hydrogen peroxide, benzoyl peroxide, a dialkyl peroxide, a perester, an inorganic peroxide, a percarbonate, triclosan, a quaternary compound, a retinoid, an antibiotic, a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or ester thereof or a mixture thereof.

12. The composition according to claim 1 1 wherein said retinoid is adapalene, isotretinoin, tretinoin or a mixture thereof.

13. The composition according to claim 1 1 wherein said antibiotic is a tetracycline, clindamycin, erythromycin, trimethoprim, cotrimoxazole, a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or ester thereof or a mixture thereof.

14. The composition according to any of claims 1 - 13 wherein said composition includes an effective amount of an essential oil.

15. The composition according to claim 14 wherein said essential oil is selected from the group consisting of lavender, melaleuca, peppermint, frankinsense, eucalyptus or a mixture thereof.

16. The composition according to any of claims 1 - 13 wherein said composition includes an effective amount of a terpene.

17. The composition according to claim 16 wherein said terpene is selected from the group consisting of a-pinene, b-pinene, camphene, b-myrcene, d-3-carene, a-terpinene, cis-ocimene, limonene, p-cymene, trans-ocimene, g-terpinene, terpino!ene, linalool, geraniol, b-caryophyllene, cis-nerolidol, trans-nerolidol and mixtures thereof.

18. The composition according to any of clams 1 -17 comprising coconut oil and/or jojoba oil.

19. A method of treating a cosmetic condition of the keratinous tissue of a subject comprising administering to the subject a composition comprising an effective amount of at least one compound which exhibits dual activity as a NF-KB signaling inhibitor and a Nrf2 signaling agonist, in combination with at least one cosmetic additive, wherein said cosmetic condition is wrinkled skin, acne scars, non-acne scars that won't heal, stretch marks, rashes, damaged skin, rough skin, warts and other skin imperfections, skin discoloration, rashes from poison ivy and poison oak and other environmental insults.

The method of claim 19, wherein the cosmetic additive is water, an alcohol or other water compatible cosmetically acceptable solvent, a water incompatible solvent, an emollient, a humectant, an oil, a conditioning agent, a surfactant, a thickener/thickening agent, a stiffening agent, an emulsifier, a medicament, a fragrance, a preservative, a deodorant component, an anti-perspirant compound, a skin protecting agent, a pigment, a dye, a coloring agent, a preservative or mixtures thereof.

21. The method of claim 19 or 20, wherein the compound is according to the chemical structure:

a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, or a mixture thereof.

22. The method according to any of claims 19-21 wherein said compound(s) is according to the chemical structure:

27. The method according to any of claims 19-26 wherein composition further comprises an anti-acne compound, vitamin C, vitamin E, vitamin A, coenzyme Q, aloe vera or a mixture thereof.

28. The method according to claim 27 wherein said bioactive agent is an anti-acne agent.

The method according to claim 27 wherein said anti-acne agent is hydrogen peroxide, benzoyl peroxide, a dialkyl peroxide, a perester, an inorganic peroxide, a percarbonate, triclosan, a quaternary compound, a retinoid, an antibiotic, a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or ester thereof or a mixture thereof.

30. The method according to claim 29 wherein said retinoid is adapalene, isotretinoin, tretinoin or a mixture thereof.

31. The method according to claim 29 wherein said antibiotic is a tetracycline, clindamycin, erythromycin, trimethoprim, cotrimoxazole, a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or ester thereof or a mixture thereof.

32. The method according to any of claims 1 - 13 wherein said composition includes an effective amount of an essential oil.

33. The method according to claim 32 wherein said essential oil is selected from the group consisting of lavender, melaleuca, peppermint, frankinsense, eucalyptus or a mixture thereof.

34. The method according to any of claims 19-31 wherein said composition includes an effective amount of a terpene.

The method according to claim 34 wherein said terpene is selected from the group consisting of a-pinene, b-pinene, camphene, b-myrcene, d-3-carene, a-terpinene, cis-ocimene, limonene, p-cymene, trans-ocimene, g-terpinene, terpinolene, linalool, geraniol, b-caryophyllene, cis-nerolidol, trans-nerolidol and mixtures thereof.

36. A method of treating keratinous tissue of a subject to repair, rejuvenate and/or beautify the keratinous tissue of a subject in need, including enhancing skin elasticity, comprising administering to the keratinous tissue of said subject an effective amount of a composition according to any of claims 1 -18.

37. A composition comprising an effective amount of compound LD55 in combination with coconut oil and/or jojoba oil.

38. A composition comprising an effective amount of compound LD55 and an essential oil.

39. The composition according to claim 38 wherein said essential oil is selected from the group consisting of lavender, melaleuca, peppermint, frankinsense, eucalyptus or a mixture thereof.

40. A composition comprising an effective amount of compound LD55 in combination with an effective amount of a terpene.

41. The composition according to claim 40 wherein said terpene is selected from the group consisting of a-pinene, b-pinene, camphene, b-myrcene, d-3-carene, a-terpinene, cis-ocimene, limonene, p-cymene, trans-ocimene, g-terpinene, terpinolene, linalool, geraniol, b-caryophyllene, cis-nerolidol, trans-nerolidol and mixtures thereof.

42. The composition according to any of claims 37-41 further including vitamin E, vitamin C and/or vitamin A.

43. A method of treating a cosmetic condition of the keratinous tissue of a subject comprising administering to the subject a composition according to any of claims 37-42 wherein said cosmetic condition is wrinkled skin, acne scars, non-acne scars that won’t heal, stretch marks, rashes, damaged skin, rough skin, warts and other skin imperfections, skin discoloration, rashes from poison ivy and poison oak and other environmental insults.

44. A method of treating keratinous tissue of a subject to repair, rejuvenate and/or beautify the keratinous tissue of a subject in need, including enhancing skin elasticity, comprising administering to the keratinous tissue of said subject an effective amount of a composition according to any of claims 37-42.
