A method for detecting cytopathic effect (CPE) in a well sample includes generating a well image depicting a well containing cells and a medium (and possibly viruses), and pre-processing the well image at least by partitioning the well image into sub-images each corresponding to a different portion of the well. The method also includes, for each of some or all of the sub-images, determining, by analyzing the sub-image using a convolutional neural network, a respective score indicative of a likelihood that any cells in the portion of the well corresponding to the sub-image exhibit CPE. The method further includes determining a CPE status of the cells contained in the well based on the respective scores for the sub-images, and generating output data indicating the CPE status.

Un procédé pour détecter un effet cytopathogène (CPE) dans un échantillon de puits comprend la génération d’une image de puits représentant un puits contenant des cellules et un milieu (et si possible des virus), et le prétraitement de l’image du puits au moins par partitionnement de l’image du puits en sous-images correspondant chacune à une partie différente du puits. Le procédé comprend également, pour chacune de quelques sous-images ou de toutes les sous-images, la détermination, par analyse de la sous-image à l’aide d’un réseau neuronal convolutif, d’un score respectif indiquant une vraisemblance que certaines cellules dans la partie du puits correspondant à la sous-image présentent un CPE. Le procédé comprend en outre la détermination d’un état de CPE pour les cellules contenues dans le puits sur la base des scores respectifs pour les sous-images, et la génération de données de sortie indiquant l’état de CPE.
