1. A method for image integration (100), said method comprising the steps of

acquiring at least two overlapping images (110) having different properties, and forming at least one integrated image (170) based on the overlapping images (110), wherein the step of forming at least one integrated image (170) comprises

generating at least one score map (130) for each acquired overlapping image (110) relating to locally salient features of said overlapping image (110),

forming an integration map (150) based on the at least one score map (130) of the at least two overlapping images (110), and

integrating the at least two overlapping images (110) based on the integration map (150) to form an integrated image (170).

2. A method according to claim 1, wherein the integration map (150) is a pixel-based

integration map and wherein the at least two overlapping images (110) are integrated on a pixel by pixel level.

3. A method according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the weight values in the integration

map (150) are directly proportional to the corresponding pixel values in the score maps (130).

4. A method according to any of the previous claims, wherein the overlapping images (110) are integrated pixel-by-pixel in direct proportion to the corresponding weight values in integration map (150) to create the integrated image (170).

5. A method according to any of the previous claims, wherein the number of overlapping images (110) is at least three.

6. A method according to any of the previous claims, wherein the number of generated score maps (130) per image (110) is at least two.

7. A method according to any of the previous claims, wherein the generation of a score map is based on at least one previously generated score map from the same set of overlapping images.

8. A method according to any of the previous claims, wherein at least one of the

overlapping images (110) is computer-generated imagery.

9. A method according to any of the previous claims, wherein at least one of the at least two overlapping images (110) is a real-time image.

10. A method according to any of the previous claims, wherein the score maps (130) are stored and used to form subsequent score maps (130) and/or the integration map (150) in a subsequent image integration.

11. A method according to any of the previous claims, wherein the integration map (150) is stored and used to generate score maps (130) and/or form the integration map (150) in a subsequent image integration.

12. A method according to any of the previous claims, wherein the integration map (150) is stored and the overlapping images (110) are integrated using the stored integration map (150) formed based on a set of overlapping images (110) from a previous image integration.

13. A method according to any of the preceding claims, wherein the score map (130)

generation relating to locally salient features comprises scoring based on object recognition.

14. A method according to any of the preceding claims, wherein the score map (130)

generation relating to locally salient features comprises scoring based on local histograms and global histograms.

15. A computer program product for performing the method for integrating at least two overlapping images (110) according to any of the preceding claims.

16. An image integration device (400) comprising

a processing element (420) arranged to

receive at least two at least overlapping images (110),

form at least one integrated image (170) based on the overlapping images (110), wherein the forming of at least one integrated image (170) comprises

generating at least one score map (130) for each acquired overlapping image (110) relating to locally salient features of said overlapping image (110),

forming an integration map (150) based on the at least one score map (130) of the at least two overlapping images (110), and

integrating the at least two overlapping images (110) using the integration map (150) to form an integrated image (170).

17. The image integration device according to claim 16, further comprising at least one image generation element (410) arranged to obtain the overlapping images (110).

18. The image integration device according to claim 16 or 17, further comprising a memory element (390) arranged to store the score maps (130).

19. The image integration device according to any of claims 16-18, further comprising a memory element (280, 390) arranged to store the integration map (150).

20. The image integration device according to any of claims 16-19, wherein the at least one image generation element (410) is arranged to provide real-time images.

21. Use of an image integration device according to any of claims 16-20 in a display system of a vehicle.

22. A vehicle navigation system comprising an image integration device (400) according to any of claims 16-20.

23. An unmanned aerial vehicle system comprising an image integration device (400) according to any of claims 16-20.

24. An image integration system (500) comprising

at least one image generation element (510) and

a processing element (520),

wherein the at least one image generation element (410) is arranged to provide overlapping images (110) to the processing element (420) and

wherein the processing element (420) is arranged to

form at least one integrated image (170) based on the overlapping images (110), wherein the forming of at least one integrated image (170) comprises

generating at least one score map (130) for each acquired overlapping image (110) relating to locally salient features of said overlapping image (110),

forming an integration map (150) based on the at least one score map (130) of the at least two overlapping images (110), and

integrating the at least two overlapping images (110) using the integration map (150) to create an integrated image (170).

25. The image integration system (500) according to claim 24, further comprising at least one display element (530).

26. The image integration system (500) according to claim 24 or 25, further comprising at least one communication element arranged to transfer data between the image generation element (510) and/or the processing element (520) and/or the display element (530).

27. The system according to any of claims 24-26, further comprising a memory element arranged (390) to store the score maps (130).

28. The system according to any of claims 24-27, further comprising a memory

element (280, 390) arranged to store the integration map (150).

29. The system according to any of claims 24-28, wherein at least part of the system (500) is integrated into an aircraft.
