Abstract

A method for performing a cutting operation on a workpiece is provided. The method comprises providing a workpiece being made of a metal characterized by a thermal conductivity of no greater than about 100 W100 w/(m-K) (approximately 57.8 Btu/(hr ft °F)), providing a cutting device comprising an internal cooling cavity defined on one side thereof by a thin-walled structure, and performing a cutting operation on the workpiece using the cutting device. The cutting speed is no less than about 500 m/min. (approximately 1640 ft/min ).

La présente invention concerne un procédé d'exécution d'une opération de coupe sur une pièce. Le procédé comprend les étapes consistant à fournir une pièce faite d'un métal caractérisé par une conductivité thermique inférieure ou égale à environ 100 W100 w/(m-K) (approximativement 57,8 Btu/(h pieds °F)), à fournir un dispositif de coupe comprenant une cavité de refroidissement interne définie sur un côté dudit dispositif de coupe par une structure à paroi mince, et à exécuter une opération de coupe sur la pièce à l'aide du dispositif de coupe. La vitesse de coupe est supérieure ou égale à environ 500 m/min. (environ 1640 pieds/min ).
