C L A I M S

1. A fuel composition comprising a base fuel and at least one viscosity index (VI) improving additive, wherein the viscosity index (VI) improving additive is a functionalized dispersant olefin copolymer.

2. A fuel composition according to Claim 1 wherein the functionalized dispersant olefin copolymer is produced from reacting an olefin copolymer with a functionalizing component selected from amines, amides, nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compounds or alcohols.

3. A fuel composition according to Claim 1 wherein the functionalized dispersant olefin copolymer is produced from grafting an olefin copolymer with a grafting material and then reacting the grafted material with a functionalizing component selected from amines, amides, nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compounds or alcohols.

4. A fuel composition according to any of Claims 1 to 3 wherein the olefin copolymer is a copolymer of ethylene with a C3 to C2o olefin.

5. A fuel composition according to Claim 4 wherein the C3 to C2o olefin is selected from propylene, butylene, butadiene, isoprene, and mixtures thereof.

6. A fuel composition according to any of Claims 1 to 5 wherein the olefin copolymer is a copolymer of ethylene and propylene.

7. A fuel composition according to any of Claims 3 to 6 wherein the grafting material is an unsaturated acid.

8. A fuel composition according to any of Claims 3 to 7 wherein the grafting material is maleic anhydride.

9. A fuel composition according to Claim 2 to 8 wherein the functionalizing component is an amine.

10. A fuel composition according to Claim 9 wherein the amine is an aromatic amine.

11. A fuel composition according to Claim 10 wherein the aromatic amine is N-phenyl-1 , 4-phenylenediamine .

12. A fuel composition according to any of Claims 1 to

11 wherein the fuel composition is a diesel fuel

composition .

13. A fuel composition according to any of Claims 1 to

12 wherein the concentration of the viscosity index (VI) improving additive in the fuel composition is from 0.001 to 0.5 %w/w, preferably from 0.025 to 0.25 %w/w.

14. Use of a viscosity index (VI) improving additive in an automotive fuel composition, for the purpose of improving the power output of an internal combustion engine into which the viscosity index (VI) improving additive, or an automotive fuel composition containing the viscosity index (VI) improving additive, is or is intended to be introduced or of a vehicle powered by such an engine, wherein the viscosity index (VI) improving additive is a functionalized dispersant olefin copolymer.

15. Method of operating an internal combustion engine, and/or a vehicle which is powered by such an engine, which method involves introducing into a combustion chamber of the engine a fuel composition according to any one of claims 1 to 13.
