Disclosed is a chromogenic culture medium for detecting O157 and non-O157 E. coli strains. The chromogenic culture medium comprises two chromogenic substrates that can generate different color signals, and one fluorescent substrate that is non-chromogenic but can generate a non-blue fluorescent signal. The chromogenic substrates and the fluorescent substrate comprise, in addition to a β-glucuronidase substrate and a β-galactosidase substrate, at least one substrate selected from the group consisting of a β-glucosidase substrate, a β-N-acetylaminoglucosidase substrate, a cellobiosidase substrate, which generate the same or similar color or a fluorescent signal. The disclosed chromogenic culture medium has excellent detection specificity for a greater number of O157 and non-O157 E. coli strains and non-E. coli strains.

Milieu de culture chromogène pour la détection de souches de E. coli O157 et Non O157. Le milieu de culture chromogène comprend deux substrats chromogènes pouvant générer différents signaux de couleur, et un substrat fluorescent qui est non chromogène mais peut générer un signal fluorescent non bleu. Les substrats chromogènes et le substrat fluorescent comprennent, en plus d'un substrat de beta-glucuronidase et d'un substrat de beta-galactosidase, au moins un substrat choisi dans le groupe constitué par un substrat de beta-glucosidase, un substrat de beta-N-acétylaminoglucosidase, un substrat de cellobiosidase, qui génèrent la même couleur ou une couleur similaire, ou un signal fluorescent. Le milieu de culture chromogène selon l'invention présente une excellente spécificité de détection pour un plus grand nombre de souches de E. coli O157 et non-O157 et des souches de non-E. coli.
