Apparatus and method for implementing a virtual display. For example, one embodiment of a graphics processing apparatus comprises at least one configuration register to store framebuffer descriptor information for a first guest running on a first virtual machine (VM) in a virtualized execution environment of a host processor, the framebuffer descriptor information to indicate one or more display pipes assigned to the first guest; and execution circuitry to execute a first driver assigned to the first guest, the first guest to use the first driver to display a framebuffer in a plane associated with one of the display pipes in accordance with the framebuffer descriptor information.

L'invention concerne un appareil et un procédé de mise en œuvre d'une unité d'affichage virtuelle. Par exemple, un mode de réalisation d'un appareil de traitement graphique comprend au moins un registre de configuration pour stocker des informations de descripteur de tampon d'image (FBD) pour un premier invité tournant sur une première machine virtuelle (VM) dans un environnement d'exécution virtualisé d'un processeur hôte, les informations de descripteur de tampon d'image indiquant un ou plusieurs pipelines d'affichage attribués au premier invité ; et un circuit d'exécution pour exécuter un premier pilote attribué au premier invité, le premier invité étant destiné à utiliser le premier pilote pour afficher un tampon d'image dans un plan associé à l'un des pipelines d'affichage conformément aux informations de descripteur de tampon d'image.
