A demodulation method and apparatus is disclosed that is for use on a modulated communication signal which comprises source data being mapped onto a first modulation scheme to obtain a first set of complex symbols and at least one further modulation scheme to obtain at least one further set of complex symbols. The method comprises receiving the modulated signal comprising the first set of complex symbols and at least one further set of complex symbols; a. applying a Forward Error Correction (FEC) decoding technique; b. applying a first phase estimation technique to the first set of symbols; c. applying a second phase estimation technique to the second set of symbols to determine phase information for the modulation signal using a first phase estimation means; and d. repeating steps c and d using at least one further phase estimation means to identify the presence of phase rotation. Beneficially the method enables the use of large block sizes in the FEC technique.

L'invention concerne un procédé et un appareil de démodulation qui sont destinés à être utilisés sur un signal de communication modulé qui comprend des données source qui sont mappées sur un premier schéma de modulation pour obtenir un premier ensemble de symboles complexes et au moins un autre schéma de modulation pour obtenir au moins un autre ensemble de symboles complexes. Le procédé consiste à recevoir le signal modulé comprenant le premier ensemble de symboles complexes et au moins un autre ensemble de symboles complexes ; a. appliquer une technique de décodage de correction d'erreur sans voie de retour (FEC); b. appliquer une première technique d'estimation de phase au premier ensemble de symboles ; c. appliquer une seconde technique d'estimation de phase au second ensemble de symboles pour déterminer des informations de phase du signal de modulation à l'aide d'un premier moyen d'estimation de phase; et d. répéter les étapes c et d à l'aide d'au moins un autre moyen d'estimation de phase pour identifier la présence d'une rotation de phase. Avantageusement, le procédé permet l'utilisation de grandes tailles de blocs dans la technique FEC.
