Es werden eine Vorrichtung und ein Verfahren zum automatisierten Entfernen eines Schutzfilms (7) von einer zu schützenden Oberfläche (9) eines optischen Bauelements (3) beschrieben. Die Vorrichtung (1) weist eine Halterung (11) zum Halten des optischen Bauelements (3), eine Randverstärkungsaufbringeinrichtung (13) und eine Randverstärkungsverlagerungseinrichtung (15) auf. Die Randverstärkungsaufbringeinrichtung (13) ist dazu konfiguriert, eine Randverstärkung (17), welche eine mechanische Belastbarkeit des Schutzfilms (7) lokal verstärkt, entlang zumindest 10 % eines äußeren Randes (19) des Schutzfilms (17) an dem Schutzfilm (17) auf Zug belastbar aufzubringen. Die Randverstärkungsverlagerungseinrichtung (15) ist dazu konfiguriert, nach dem Aufbringen der Randverstärkung (17) mit der Randverstärkung (17) mechanisch zusammenzuwirken und den Schutzfilm (7) durch Ziehen an der Randverstärkung (17) in einer Abzugrichtung (37) weg von dem äußeren Rand (19) von der zu schützenden Oberfläche (9) abzuziehen.

Described are a device and a method for the automated removal of a protective film (7) from a surface (9) to be protected of an optical component (3). The edge reinforcement application device (13) is designed to apply an edge reinforcement (17), which locally reinforces the mechanical load-bearing capacity of the protective film (7), to the protective film (7) along at least 10% of an outer edge (19) of the protective film (7) with a resistance to tensile stress. The edge reinforcement relocation device (15) is designed to mechanically interact with the edge reinforcement (17) after the edge reinforcement (17) has been applied, and to remove the protective film (7) from the surface to be protected (9) by pulling on the edge reinforcement (17) in a removal direction (37) away from the outer edge (19).
