Apparatus for use with a ventricular assist device that is assisting cardiac function of a biological subject, the apparatus including one or more electronic processing devices that determine pressure changes in the ventricle over one or more cardiac cycles using an aortic pressure derived from a measured blood pressure, a pump head pressure derived based on a pump flow rate and outlet fluid conduit pressure losses derived based on a pump flow rate, a fluid conduit diameter and haematocrit amount. The processing device(s) then determine volume changes in the ventricle at least in part using a pump blood flow derived based on a pump flow rate and an ejection volume based on an aortic valve opening duration, and use the pressure and volume changes to at least one of derive a ventricular function indicator indicative of ventricular function and control the ventricular assist device.

La présente invention concerne un appareil à utiliser avec un dispositif d’assistance ventriculaire servant à assister la fonction cardiaque d’un sujet biologique, l’appareil comprenant un ou plusieurs dispositifs de traitement électroniques qui déterminent les changements de pression dans le ventricule sur un ou plusieurs cycles cardiaques à l'aide d'une pression aortique dérivée d’une pression du sang mesurée, une pression de tête de pompe dérivée en fonction d’un débit d’écoulement de pompe et des pertes de pression de conduit d’écoulement de sortie dérivées en fonction d’un débit d’écoulement de pompe, d’un diamètre de conduit de liquide et d’une valeur d’hématocrite. Le(s) dispositif(s) de traitement déterminent ensuite les changements de volume dans le ventricule au moins en partie à l'aide d'un écoulement de sang de pompe dérivé en fonction d’un débit d’écoulement de pompe et d’un volume d’éjection en fonction d’une durée de fonctionnement de valve aortique, et l’utilisation de la pression et du volume change pour au moins l’un de la dérivée d’un indicateur de fonction ventriculaire indicatif de la fonction ventriculaire et de la commande du dispositif d’assistance ventriculaire.
