A method (400) of operating a frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar system includes receiving, by at least one processor, digital intermediate frequency (IF) signals from a mixer coupled to a receive antenna (402). The method also includes computing, by the at least one processor, a motion metric based on the digital IF signals (402); operating, by the at least one processor, the FMCW radar system in a classification mode, in response to determining that the motion metric is above a threshold (404, 406); and operating, by the at least one processor, the FMCW radar system in a detection mode, in response to determining that the motion metric is below the threshold for at least a first amount of time (408, 402). An amount of power consumed by the FMCW radar system in the detection mode is less than an amount of power consumed by the FMCW radar system in the classification mode.

Cette invention concerne un procédé (400) de commande d'un système radar à onde entretenue modulée en fréquence (FMCW) consistant à recevoir, par au moins un processeur, de signaux numériques de fréquence intermédiaire (IF) provenant d'un mélangeur couplé à une antenne de réception (402). Le procédé consiste également à : calculer, par le(s) processeur(s), une mesure de mouvement sur la base des signaux numériques de fréquence intermédiaire (402) ; commander, par le(s) processeur(s), le système radar à onde entretenue modulée en fréquence en un mode classification, en réponse à la détermination que la mesure de mouvement est supérieure à un seuil (404, 406) ; et commander, par le(s) processeur(s), le système radar à onde entretenue modulée en fréquence en un mode détection, en réponse à la détermination que la mesure de mouvement est inférieure au seuil pendant au moins une première durée (408, 402). Une quantité d'énergie consommée par le système radar à onde entretenue modulée en fréquence dans le mode détection est inférieure à une quantité d'énergie consommée par le système radar à onde entretenue modulée en fréquence dans le mode classification.
