Disclosed is a method and system to reduce user equipment (UE) battery consumption and efficiently utilize uplink hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) memory, including sending uplink data to a base station and saving a backup copy of the uplink data in an uplink HARQ buffer, receiving an acknowledgement from the base station indicating that the uplink data has been received, measuring a HARQ retransmission time required to retransmit the uplink data to the base station after receiving the acknowledgement, comparing the measured HARQ retransmission time to a remaining discontinuous reception cycle, and removing the uplink data from the uplink HARQ buffer after expiration of an inactivity timer and switching the UE to a sleep mode based on the comparison.

L'invention concerne un procédé et un système destinés à réduire la consommation de batterie d'un équipement d'utilisateur (UE) et à utiliser de façon efficiente une mémoire de demande de répétition automatique hybride (HARQ) de liaison montante, comprenant les étapes consistant à envoyer des données de liaison montante à une station de base et à sauvegarder une copie de secours des données de liaison montante dans un tampon HARQ de liaison montante, à recevoir un accusé de réception en provenance de la station de base indiquant que les données de liaison montante ont été reçues, à mesurer un temps de retransmission de HARQ nécessaire pour retransmettre les données de liaison montante à la station de base après avoir reçu l'accusé de réception, à comparer le temps de retransmission de HARQ mesuré à un cycle de réception discontinue restant, et à retirer les données de liaison montante du tampon HARQ de liaison montante après expiration d'un temporisateur d'inactivité et à faire passer l'UE dans un mode de sommeil d'après la comparaison.
