For each image in a set of images, a representation of the image at a first level of quality is derived (1010) using a first representation of the image at a second, higher level of quality and is output for processing by a decoder. Configuration data is output for processing by the decoder to enable the decoder to detect whether or not the first representation of a given image in the set of images is to be reconstructed using residual data for the given image (1030), the residual data: (i) being useable to reconstruct the first representation using a second representation of the image at the second level of quality, the second representation being based on the representation of the image at the first level of quality, and (ii) being derived based on the first representation and the second representation.

L'invention concerne un procédé selon lequel, pour chaque image dans un ensemble d'images, une représentation de l'image à un premier niveau de qualité est dérivée (1010) au moyen d'une première représentation de l'image à un second niveau de qualité supérieure et est émise en sortie pour un traitement par un décodeur. Des données de configuration sont émises pour un traitement par le décodeur pour permettre au décodeur de détecter si la première représentation d'une image donnée dans l'ensemble d'images doit être reconstruite au moyen de données résiduelles pour l'image donnée (1030), les données résiduelles: (i) pouvant servir à reconstruire la première représentation au moyen d'une seconde représentation de l'image au second niveau de qualité, la seconde représentation étant basée sur la représentation de l'image au premier niveau de qualité, et (ii) étant dérivées sur la base de la première représentation et de la seconde représentation.
