Systems and methods for joining a substrate of metallic material to a substrate of ceramic material using friction stir welding are provided. In one example, a method includes arranging an edge of the substrate of metallic material next to an edge of the substrate of ceramic material, and advancing a spinning engagement element of a friction stir welding tool through an edge zone of the substrate of metallic material located adjacent the edge of the substrate of metallic material, thereby to form a friction stir weld between the substrate of metallic material and the substrate of ceramic material. The method may also include advancing the spinning engagement element through the edge zone of the substrate of metallic material without touching, by the engagement element, the edge of the substrate of ceramic material.

L'invention concerne des systèmes et des procédés pour assembler un substrat en matière métallique à un substrat en matière céramique par soudage par friction-malaxage. Dans un exemple, un procédé consiste à placer un bord du substrat en matière métallique à proximité d'un bord du substrat en matière céramique; et à faire avancer un élément de mise en prise par repoussage d'un outil de soudage par friction-malaxage à travers une zone de bord du substrat en matière métallique adjacente au bord du substrat en matière métallique pour former ainsi une soudure par friction-malaxage entre le substrat en matière métallique et le substrat en matière céramique. Le procédé peut également consister à faire avancer l'élément de mise en prise par repoussage à travers la zone de bord du substrat en matière métallique sans toucher, par l'élément de mise en prise, le bord du substrat en matière céramique.
