In order to provide a method for efficiently estimating the degree of wear, a method is provided for estimating the degree of wear of a tire using the contact time ratio, which is the ratio of the contact time with respect to the rotation time, and also using, as a measure of wear, a normalized deformation speed index obtained by normalizing, with the tire rotation time, an index of the deformation speed near the tire contact edge as calculated from the magnitude of the peak appearing in the radial acceleration waveform obtained by differentiating the tire radial acceleration detected by an acceleration sensor, wherein the measure of wear, the contact time ratio, an approximate formula for calculating the wearing of tires which is obtained in advance and shows the relationship between the measure of wear and the contact time ratio as obtained by running a plurality of tires having different sizes, and an approximate formula for calculating the time for new tires, are used to estimate the degree of wear of the tire.

摩耗の度合の推定を効率よく行う方法を提供するために、加速度センサーにより検出したタイヤ径方向加速度を微分した径方向加速度波形に出現するピークの大きさから算出した、タイヤ接地端部近傍における変形速度の指標をタイヤの回転時間で基準化した基準化変形速度指標を摩耗メジャーとするとともに、この摩耗メジャーと、回転時間に対する接地時間との比である接地時間比とを用いてタイヤの摩耗の度合いを推定する方法において、前記摩耗メジャーと、接地時間比と、予め求めておいた、互いにタイヤサイズの異なる複数のタイヤを走行させて得られた摩耗メジャーと接地時間比との関係を示す摩耗タイヤ近似式と、タイヤ新品時近似式とを用いて、タイヤの摩耗の度合いを推定するようにした。
