Provided are a protective element and a protective circuit that, when activated, can more reliably cut off the supply of power to provide protection on the occurrence of an overcurrent by using a simpler circuit configuration without the use of a rectification means such as a diode or a switch element. The protective element is provided with: an insulated substrate; at least one pair of fuse electrodes disposed on this insulated substrate; an intermediate electrode disposed on the insulated substrate at a position between the fuse electrodes; a fuse element joined to the fuse electrodes and the intermediate electrode and electrically connected to the fuse electrodes and the intermediate electrode; and a heat-generating body disposed on the insulated substrate so as to be electrically connected to the intermediate electrode and a heat-generating electrode. Among pairs of fuse electrodes including the intermediate electrode, a conducting means between the electrodes of at least one pair is disposed differently from conducting means between the electrodes of the other pairs.
