The present invention relates to an information processing device and an information processing method which enable achieving higher image quality while suppressing increases in the amount of processing in a client. Image data of multiple projection directions is generated by converting 3D data to two dimensions by projection in multiple projection directions, and projection direction information, which indicates the projection directions of the image data, is generated as projection metadata. Furthermore, the projection direction information includes additional projection direction identification information that indicates that image data was generated by projection in an additional projection direction. The present invention can be applied for example to a data generation device which generates data for distributing point clouds.
