Provided are a skeleton model updating device, a skeleton model updating method, and a program such that it is possible to improve the validity of a skeleton model posture determination result using forward and backward reaching inverse kinematics computation. A posture data acquisition unit (52) acquires posture data indicating the posture of a target node contained in a tree-structure skeleton model. An initial position determination unit (54) determines the position to which the target node should move on the basis of the posture data. The initial position determination unit (54) determines the initial position of a parent node for the target node in a forward and backward reaching inverse kinematics computation on the basis of the position to which the target node should move and a given posture of the skeleton model. A posture updating unit (56) executes a forward and backward reaching inverse kinematics computation including the determination of the new position for the parent node on the basis of the position to which the target node should move and the parent node initial position and thereby updates the posture of the skeleton model.
