An electrochemical cell is disclosed comprising a carbonate : nitrile type solvent mixture based electrolyte. The electrolyte may comprise an alkali salt and/or at least one polymer additive. The alkali salt cation may be a lithium cation and/or the alkali salt anion may comprise an oxalato-borate group. The electrolyte may further comprise one or more electrolyte additives, which may be an SEI improving additive. The anode may comprise carbon. The anode may be an alkali metal anode.The operating voltage and energy density performance of the disclosed invention is at the same level as the performance of presently market- leading battery cells, thereby these disclosed improvements do not come at the expense of battery performance. The utility of the herein disclosed battery electrolyte allows stable cycling of advanced Li-ion battery electrodes, an extended operating temperature range and improves battery safety by making the electrolyte less reactive and volatile than conventional LiPF6 electrolyte salt in carbonate solvents.

L'invention concerne une cellule électrochimique comprenant un électrolyte à base de mélange de solvants de type carbonate : nitrile. L'électrolyte peut comprendre un sel alcalin et/ou au moins un additif polymère. Le cation de sel alcalin peut être un cation de lithium et/ou l'anion de sel alcalin peut comprendre un groupe oxalato-borate. L'électrolyte peut en outre comprendre un ou plusieurs additifs d'électrolyte, qui peuvent être un additif d'amélioration de SEI. L'anode peut comprendre du carbone. L'anode peut être une anode de métal alcalin. La tension de fonctionnement et la performance de densité d'énergie de la présente invention sont au même niveau que les performances des éléments de batterie leader sur le marché, ainsi ces améliorations décrites ne viennent pas avec les coûts de performance de batterie. L'utilité de l'électrolyte de batterie de l'invention permet un cyclage stable d'électrodes de batterie Li-ion avancées, une plage de température de fonctionnement étendue et améliore la sécurité de la batterie en rendant l'électrolyte moins réactif et volatil que le sel d'électrolyte LiPF6 conventionnel dans des solvants de carbonate.
