Provided is a system for and a method of processing an optical fiber, such as tapering an optical fiber. The method includes receiving fiber parameters defining characteristics of an optical fiber, modeling an idealized fiber based on the fiber parameters to establish modeled data, and establishing processing parameters. A processing operation is performed on the optical fiber according to the processing parameters to produce a resultant fiber. Aspects of the resultant fiber are measured to establish measured data. The measured data and the modeled data are normalized to a common axis and a difference between the two is determined. The processing parameters are adjusted based on the differences.

La présente invention concerne un système et un procédé de traitement d’une fibre optique, tel que l’effilage d’une fibre optique. Le procédé comprend la réception de paramètres de fibre définissant les caractéristiques d’une fibre optique, la modélisation d’une fibre idéalisée sur la base des paramètres de fibre pour établir des données modélisées, et l’établissement de paramètres de traitement. Une opération de traitement est effectuée sur la fibre optique selon les paramètres de traitement pour produire une fibre résultante. Les aspects de la fibre résultante sont mesurés pour établir des données mesurées. Les données mesurées et les données modélisées sont normalisées à un axe commun et une différence entre les deux est déterminée. Les paramètres de traitement sont réglés sur la base des différences.
