Hydrophilic composite structures are made by impregnating a 3DL structure with a polyurethane foam formulation and curing the formulation to produce a foam that occupies the spaces in the 3DL structure. The composite structures have an unusually good capacity for retaining water even when under compressive forces. They also exhibit at most moderate swelling when saturated with water. The foam is useful as a layer of a water containment system such as a green roof or blue roof system.

Des structures composites hydrophiles sont obtenues par imprégnation d'une structure 3 DL avec une formulation de mousse de polyuréthane et durcissement de la formulation pour produire une mousse qui occupe les espaces dans la structure 3 DL. Les structures composites ont une capacité exceptionnellement bonne pour retenir l'eau même lorsqu'elles sont soumises à des forces de compression. Elles présentent également au plus un gonflement modéré lors d'une saturation avec de l'eau. La mousse est utile en tant que couche d'un système de confinement d'eau tel qu'un système de toit vert ou de toit bleu.
