This imaging element is provided with: a first pixel having a first photoelectric conversion unit, a first accumulation unit that accumulates electric charges generated by the first photoelectric conversion unit, and a first output unit that outputs a first signal based on the voltage of the first accumulation unit; a second pixel having a second photoelectric conversion unit, a second accumulation unit that accumulates electric charges generated by the second photoelectric conversion unit, and a second output unit that outputs a second signal based on the voltage of the second accumulation unit; an output line to which the first and second output units are connected and through which the first and second signals are outputted; and a control unit that can control the voltage of the first accumulation unit to a first voltage and the voltage of the second accumulation unit to the first voltage or to a second voltage different from the first voltage.
