This copolymer for suppressing protein adhesion is for producing an article that comes into contact with proteins, the copolymer having a structural unit (a) represented by a formula 1 and a structural unit (b) represented by a formula 2. In the formulas, R1 is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; R2 is OR33, a halogen atom, COR34, COOR35, CN, CONR36R37 or R38; R33-R37 are each independently a hydrogen atom, a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted alicyclic group, a substituted or unsubstituted aryl group, a substituted or unsubstituted heteroaryl group, a substituted or unsubstituted non-aromatic heterocyclic group, a substituted or unsubstituted aralkyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted alkaryl group, or a substituted or unsubstituted organosilyl group; and R38 is a substituted or unsubstituted aryl group, or a substituted or unsubstituted heteroaryl group.
