Image data encoding and/or decoding apparatus comprises an inter-image predictor configured to predict samples of a current image region, of a plurality of regions of an image in a sequence of images, with respect to a reference image region of another, reference, image of the sequence of images, according to a direction vector indicating a spatial displacement of the reference image region from the current image region;an interpolation filter configured to generate the predicted samples of the current image region by spatial interpolation of samples of the reference image region, at least in instances where the direction vector indicates a spatial displacement of a non-integer number of samples, in which the interpolation filter is configured to operate according to a set of filter parameters each defining the spatial frequency response of a set of filters providing interpolation at a spatial displacement resolution of 1/m sample, where m is an integer greater than one; and a filter response selector configured to select a set of the filter parameters from two or more candidate sets of filter parameters for use in respect of at least the current image region.

Selon l'invention, un appareil de codage et/ou de décodage de données d'image comprend : un prédicteur inter-image conçu pour prédire des échantillons d'une zone d'image courante, d'une pluralité de zones d'une image dans une suite d'images, par rapport à une zone d'image de référence d'une autre image de référence de la suite d'images, selon un vecteur directionnel indiquant un déplacement spatial de la zone d'image de référence à partir de la zone d'image courante; un filtre d'interpolation conçu pour générer les échantillons prédits de la zone d'image courante par interpolation spatiale d'échantillons de la zone d'image de référence, au moins dans des cas où le vecteur directionnel indique un déplacement spatial d'un nombre non entier d'échantillons dans lesquels le filtre d'interpolation est conçu pour fonctionner selon un ensemble de paramètres de filtre définissant chacun la réponse en fréquence spatiale d'un ensemble de filtres apportant une interpolation, à une résolution de déplacement spatial d'échantillon 1/m, m étant un nombre entier supérieur à un; et un sélecteur de réponse filtre conçu pour sélectionner un ensemble des paramètres de filtre à partir d'au moins deux ensembles de paramètres de filtre candidats à utiliser par rapport à au moins la zone d'image courante.
